When you pay land revenue (e-Khajana), registration fees, or excise duties online in Assam, you receive a receipt containing an e-GRN. e-GRN is a crucial term in government transactions. But what does it mean, and how do you check its status if your payment is stuck?

Here, I will explain what e-GRN is and how to verify your transaction status online through the e-GRAS portal.

What is e-GRN?

e-GRN stands for Electronic Government Reference Number. It is a unique 18-digit identification number generated by the Government Receipt Accounting System (e-GRAS) of Assam for every online payment made to the state treasury.

It acts as a final audit check proving that your money has been successfully debited from your bank account and credited to the specific government department's head of account.

Why Check e-GRN Status?

Sometimes, during online payments on Sewa Setu, your bank account is debited, but the portal shows "Payment Failed" or "Pending". In such cases, checking the e-GRN status tells you if the money reached the treasury (Success) or if it will be refunded to your account (Failed).

How to Check e-GRN Status Online?

Follow these steps to track your payment:

  1. First, visit the official e-GRAS Assam portal: https://assamegras.gov.in.
  2. On the home page, look for the "Challan Status" or "Search Challan" option on the sidebar menu.
  3. Select your search criteria. You can search using the e-GRN Number directly.
  4. Enter your 18-digit e-GRN number in the box.
  5. Type the captcha code exactly as shown and click on Search.
  6. The screen will display your challan details, payment date, bank reference number, and status (SUCCESS / FAILED / PENDING).

If the status shows SUCCESS, your tax is paid. Print this challan as proof of payment to show to your local circle office if needed. That's it!
